June 11, 2025 - Mother's Day!

First of all, again, many thanks to donors! One in particular - Sail La Vie in White Bear Lake. This company makes canvas bags, windbreakers, and similar products but their specialty is sails for boats. We are so grateful that they have contributed two boxes of brightly colored scraps of canvas for Listening House plus some other fabric scraps and some bag patterns. Sew We Work makes ditty bags, tote bags, coin purses and little wallets for Listening House. There was a super vinyl mesh fabric that I sewed for a bag - I hope the guests at LH like them and can use them! I have so much fun sewing them and love being able to give them to someone who may not have as much as I do.

Linda continues to provide much needed mending and sewing at Listening House as a volunteer; and, is delighted to be working with some very sturdy gray scraps to reinforce torn backpacks and for other heavy sewing tasks. Hats off to Sail La Vie!

As you can see by the latest picture, I'm learning how to make a quilt by hand sewing! What a treat! these are hexagons - six sides - using muslin for the back, batting and colorful print for the inside. then i sew all these together to make a quilt! This is a super sit-down, couch project - keeps me out of the kitchen and snacking in the evenings!

And, I continue to thank Kathy and Linda who provided so much fabric, machines and supplies for teaching sewing. I was able to give three boxes of beautiful fabric to Under One Roof, a fiber arts non profit that teaches sub-saharan African women how to sew and create with textiles and threads. Hats off to Marina at Under One Roof - doing a fantastic job teaching and coordinating volunteers!

And, one last, but not least nod to American Sewing Guild - they receive many donations of sewing machines, fabric, supplies, etc. Again, Sew We Work was blessed with boxes of fabric and supplies for teaching! I'm happy to give these supplies and fabrics to my students and people who sew.

Oh, one more! First Lutheran Church on second Saturdays hosts a creative arts gathering from 10 to 1 with lunch provided. What a lovely group of people! There are people who come to just hang out, color, sew, knit, gab - eat! we do it all!! We need community now more than ever.

Everyone, please be blessed, with whatever you are doing creatively! Even a walk in the neighborhood can spark creativity - spring has sprung and everywhere I walk there are tulips, lilacs, lily of the valley, and of course crocus and daffodils, and more flowers blooming. Enjoy!

With awesome love to you all, LauraRose
