Hello everyone! I'm just writing a few notes to bring up to date what Sew We Work has been and will be doing.
This Saturday, April 24, 2025 I am participating in Fix it Clinic for Ramsey County - I will provide mending for people who bring projects to fix. There will also be a sewing machine person repairing sewing machines if your machine is out of sync.
Sew We Work is moving from Rondo library to Downtown Library - that is George Latimer Library in the innovation lab on the third floor, on the last Saturday of the month starting June. Teaching there is different than what I have been doing at Rondo - At George Latimer library, a person needs to sign up and students all learn to sew the same item. A lot easier on me and I believe will be much better for me! The only hitch in the giddy-up is needing to pay at a meter or parking garage.
The next thing - I've been invited to teach sewing machine knowledge at Reuse Minnesota, Sewing Machine Basics workshop at North Regional Library in Minneapolis:
Friday, May 16 | 9:30am - 12:30pm
North Regional Library, 1315 Lowry Avenue North, Minneapolis
If that isn't enough, I'm supporting new sewists at First Lutheran Church in St Paul, MN on second Saturdays. At this group, people come, and create with us - sewing, knitting, crochet, beading book nook building (bringing their own supplies except I bring sewing machines/gear and fabric) - anything someone is working on we are together - we need community now more than ever.
In the midst of all that, I have put together one quilt top - kind of funky, see pic, and another one - just so you know sometimes Ramsey County puts on creative arts swaps - you bring what you don't need or want any longer, and perhaps find something you do want to work on. Last year, I took two bins of unfinished quilts and am working on one of them now. Plus - at night, when watching TV I'm learning how to sew a quilt by hand - I've started out with hexagonal quilt templates. I was inspired by a woman who came to our first Craft group at First Lutheran. Even someone over 70 (like me) can find a new technique to master!
A few weeks ago, I finished a "bubble quilt." First time and definitely not my finest hour - but interesting for sure.
Happy Sewing!
